Service 01 Drywall hanging
Drywall hanging in Billings, MT
Good finishing starts with good hanging. On new homes and commercial jobs we hang the board your plans call for, with sheets run the right way, joints staggered and butt ends kept off the corners of doors and windows.
Hung tight. Finished flat.
How we hang it
Ceilings first, then walls from the top down. Sheets go perpendicular to the framing, and we use the longest sheets that fit and can get into the room, because every butt joint we avoid is one less hump to feather out later.
We keep joints off the corners of doors and windows. That's where houses move, and a seam lined up with a header corner is where a crack shows up the first winter. Fasteners follow the board maker's instructions and code, set just below the surface without breaking the face paper.
The board itself is whatever the plans and code specify for each wall and ceiling. Corner bead goes on straight and tight.
Before we can start
- Framing done and reasonably straight. We'll flag badly bowed studs before we cover them, because board doesn't fix a crooked wall.
- Plumbing, electrical and HVAC rough-ins in, and any required inspections passed, including insulation.
- Heat in the building in cold weather, so board and mud stay warm enough before, during and after finishing.
- A clear path in for material and full-length sheets.
